CANADA - INCREASE IN INVITATION TO APPLY (ITA) FOR EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW

The number of Applicants for immigration to Canada has increased to 1,000 in the latest draw from the Express Entry pool (EOI) as on 7th September 2016.  Also it has been advised that Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points required for an eligible applicant  to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) decreased considerably compared to the previous draw from 538 to 491.

Also, since April 2016 the no. of Invitation to Apply (ITA) issued has never reached the 1,000 mark.. The previous  draw, which took place on 24th August has only seen 750 Invitation to Apply (ITA) issued to applicants.

Applicants  who have been issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) are given 60 days to provide supporting documents with their application to apply for their Canadian permanent residence.  It is also advised that from this period of time the government of Canada aims to process the application within six months. Additional family members, including spouses or common-law partners as well as dependent children, may also immigrate to Canada along with the principal applicant.

Also, with number of Invitation to Apply (ITA) having increased and the CRS cut-off point going down substantially, many applicants who did not receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) on this occasion remain positive about achieving their Canadian immigration target.  The increase in the number of Invitation to Apply (ITA) issued in the 7th September draw may reflect a desire on the part of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to issue more invitations through the fall season in order to reach annual target intake levels.

It’s been recommended according to the government of Canada’s year-end 2015 Express Entry report, 57 percent of applicants who received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in 2015 had Core CRS scores of less than 450 (the lowest CRS point requirement of in any Express Entry draw that has taken place so far is 450). Core CRS indicates a applicant’s score without the additional 600 points for a job offer or an enhanced provincial nomination certificate.

Many applicants selected into the pool and later receive an improved Provincial nomination certificate from a Canadian province. Since Express Entry was first announced in January 2015, more Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) options have developed and are available for Express Entry applicants. With many of these PNP opening and closing quickly, indication suggests that being ready to apply for such opportunities in advance is key to ultimately receiving an ITA for permanent residence.

Keeping up to date with PNP options, there are many other possible actions that applicants may take to increase their CRS score and thus increase their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Furthermore, the Minister of Immigration, John McCallum, has made it pretty clear that he wants to increase the overall number of new immigrants to Canada over the coming years. Not only that, but the Express Entry system may also be modified. The exact changes in the Express Entry system if and when the changes to happen are not yet known.

Therefore, with an likely increase in invitations issued over the coming draws, I would encourage applicants  who are presently have the eligibility to enter the Express Entry pool to do so. It is also advised that once the applicants are in the pool that they can attract the attention of Canadian provinces that are looking to welcome newcomers through a Provincial Nomination Program (PNP), as well as employers hiring through the system.
