NEW ZEALAND LONG TERM AND IMMEDIATE SKILLED SHORTAGE LIST

An applicant can qualify under the Skilled Migrant Category if he/she meets the requirement on Age, Qualification, Work experience and English language. To be selected from Expression of Interest (EOI) the applicant needs to have a Skilled Employment. Skilled employment is that which require expert, technical or administration know-how to apply.

It is important to note that to claim points for your Work experience in a Skilled employment, your occupation must be listed in any one of the following lists:

  • Immediate Skills Shortage List (ISSL),
  • Long Term Skills Shortage List (LTSSL) or Canterbury Skills Shortage List (CSSL) (OR)
  • You must have an offer of skilled employment in New Zealand.


LONG TERM SKILL SHORTAGE LIST (LTSSL): The Long-Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL) has recognized occupations that have an absolute continued and ongoing shortage of skilled workers both internationally and throughout New Zealand. Applicants who gain employment in one of these occupations may be given a work visa under the LTSSL Work to Residence or Essential Skills instructions.

Applicants who are applying for residence under the Skilled Migrant Category could gain bonus points towards their application if an applicant has an offer of employment, work experience or qualifications in an area of absolute skill shortage identified on the Long-Term Skill Shortage List.

The Long-Term Skill Shortage List is a list of occupations in New Zealand recognised as having aknown and absolute (sustained and ongoing) shortage of skilled workers in different categories.

Note 4: A letter, certificate or registration from the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand Incorporated (IPENZ), as Engineering New Zealand was formerly known, may be used to meet the requirement for a letter, certificate or registration from Engineering New Zealand. A letter from IPENZ may also be used to meet an applicable requirement instead of a letter from IT Professionals New Zealand. IPENZ's name changed to Engineering New Zealand in October 2017.
