CANADA APPLICATIONS ON FAST TRACK FOR TEMPORARY WORKERS HIRED BY EMPLOYERS
The businesses that have two-year history of hiring temporary foreign workers successfully will be eligible to apply for fast-tracked hiring. The company should have a regular record of filing authentic and successful visa applications and have not dishonored any immigration rules, and if the company dishonors the rules to hire temporary foreign workers will be suspended for two years, says Canada’s HR and Skills Development Minister, Diane Finley.
Employers with a good track record who are in need of high-skilled workers will be able to obtain a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) within 10 business days and it is effective immediately. The fast tracked LMO process will initially apply to Canadian businesses hiring high-skilled immigrant workers.
Before hiring a foreign worker, Canadian employers are presently required in the majority cases to apply for a LMO (Labour Market Opinion). To apply for LMO, the company must first prove that it has made an attempt to employ locally and within the country and unable to find workers. Then only the company can apply to Service Canada and get okay to employ someone for a two-year period from outside the country.
Once Service Canada approves the company to employ from abroad, the employee to be employed must then apply for a work visa through Citizenship and Immigration Canada. While this new process will help employers complete LMOs faster, this will not fast-track the actual visa applications that workers need to submit after the LMOs are approved. The new system is made in a way that it will also reduce the paperwork for businesses since applications are made online.
Canadian immigration anticipates processing about 1,50,000 temporary foreign worker applications this year.
