The province of Manitoba is now one of the Canadian provinces to which applicants can apply under Express Entry aligned Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). An applicant must meet the initial points under Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) category 67 points and should meet the eligibility to apply for EOI. An applicant does not require a family linking to apply for the province.
Manitoba has announced a number of changes to its Provincial Nominee Program, which includes the creation of an indemand occupations list and a new pathway aligned with Canada’s Express Entry system.
The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) is to provide newcomers with new pathways to permanent residence in the province. These changes include the rearrangement of three current immigration streams namely: Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream and Skilled Worker Overseas Stream and the new International Education Stream.
Another important change is the announcement of a new in-demand occupations list that will be used to rank Expressions of Interest (EOI) for inviting applications from the new Skilled Worker Overseas stream. This option is subdivided into two pathways: Manitoba Express Entry Pathway and the Human Capital Pathway.
The Express Entry Pathway effective January 2018 allows Manitoba to nominate qualified applicants who meet the criteria for Canada’s Express Entry system and have an active Express Entry profile. Between other criteria, importance will be given to applicants as follows:
• who have a minimum of six-months experience in an in-demand occupation
• An applicant who has a close friend or relative in Manitoba
• or a valid Invitation to Apply issued by the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)
An applicant with nomination obtains an additional 600 points towards an Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System score, and this helps an applicant to obtain sufficient points and to be invited.
The requirements for the Express Entry Pathway have to be considered for an applicant that must have a valid profile in both Manitoba’s Expression of Interest pool and the Federal Express Entry pool. The applicant must have at least six months of recent experience in an occupation on Manitoba’s new In-Demand Occupation list.
The province of Manitoba explains that Express Entry Pathway is for applicants demonstrating high human capital values. Applicants must also have the confirmed support of a close friend or relative who has been a resident of Manitoba for at least one year.
