On 1st July 2020, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has directed State and Territory Governments not to receive nomination allocations for skilled visa subclasses 491 and 190. On this aspect most States and Territories have announced that their skilled migration programs will remain closed until further notice.

Prospective applicants / candidates can still lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the Commonwealth’s Department of Home Affairs through SkillSelect system. An EOI will be mandatory required to be lodged before you can apply for State nomination visa.
STATE OF VICTORIA: The Victorian Government has stated its nomination program will remain temporarily closed while awaiting the Commonwealth Government’s allocation of state nomination places for 2020-21. In the interim period of time candidates / applicants will not be able to apply to apply for the State nomination visas for the following subclasses:

SOUTH AUSTRALIA: The South Australian state advises that their Skilled and Business Migration programs are scheduled to re-open from early August 2020, depending on the Commonwealth Government’s allocation of state nomination places for program year 2020-21.
QUEENSLAND: Business and Skilled Migration Queensland (BSMQ) is the state nominating body for the Queensland government and a business unit of Trade and Investment Queensland. BSMQ has advised by the Department of Home Affairs that it will not be in a position to open the 2020/21 migration program on 1 July 2020.
As a moment, BSMQ’s business and skilled migration program will remain closed on 1 July 2020 pending further notice. Also they state that BSMQ will not be accepting any Expressions of Interests (EOIs) submitted on Skillselect from 1 July 2020.
TASMANIA: The Tasmanian Government actively pursues skilled and business migrants in Subclass 190 - Skilled Nominated. The Australian Government has not yet allocated nomination quotas to the states and territories for the 2020-2021 program year.
While applications for state nomination by Tasmania continue open and will last to be considered and no nominations can be made in SkillSelect until quotas are assigned.
Also Migration Tasmania currently does not have an indication of the size of the 2020 -2021 nomination quota and cannot promise all eligible applicants will be nominated.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA: The state of Western Australia has released a recent graduate stream for the Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190) and the Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa.
Applicants seeking Western Australian State nomination for the State Nominated Business Owner 892 Visa or 888 Business Innovation and Investment – Business.
AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY (ACT): The Australian Capital Territory (ACT), known as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) until 1938, is a federal territory of Australia containing the Australian capital. They have not provided further updates and are closed.
NORTHERN TERRITORY (NT): The state of Northern Territory is has released a recent graduate stream for the Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190) and the Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa. They have not provided further updates and are closed.
