PORTUGAL IMMIGRATION EXTENDS THE VALIDITY OF RESIDENCY TITLES TILL 30th JUNE 2025
The Portuguese Government has announced, on 26th June 2024 that the extension of the validity of all residency titles, currently issued, until 30th June 2025. This decision, made after the Council of Ministers' meeting, is part of a broader Public Administration Reform and Migration Action Plan.
PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION REFORM: The Reform are aimed to be implemented over the next four years, directing on:
- Improvising the unity and success of administrative actions;
- Assisting cost-efficiency through shared incomes;
- Inspiring innovation and knowledge;
- Educating organizational and operational models.
MIGRATION ACTION PLAN: The Migration Action Plan is built on three key pillars:
- PROACTIVE IMMIGRATION ATTRACTION: Passing on the Agency for Integration, Migrations, and Asylum (AIMA) the mission to proactively draw immigrants;
- MIGRATION OBSERVATORY: Creating the Migration Observatory as an AIMA body to assume and control migration data and insights;
- EXTENSION OF DOCUMENTS AND VISAS: Covering the validity of documents and visas related to staying in the national territory for one year - until June 30th, 2025.
Additionally, a mission force for the recovery of pending processes at AIMA has been formed. This mission force will focus on analysing and determining on pending processes for the regulation of foreigners. Operating until June 2, 2025, it will include up to 300 workers devoted to administrative processing and applicant support.
